Shake Roofs:
Shake roofs should be carefully inspected by a
competent, licensed roofer prior to any cleaning procedure. Periodic
cleaning and maintenance will add many years to the life of your shake roof.
After an initial roof inspection and any necessary repairs, a gentle
cleaning agent followed by a high-volume rinsing is used to clean the
surface and restore the wood to its original color. After cleaning, the wood
should be coated with an oil-based stain containing wood preservatives, UV
protection, and algaecide protection. Bleach should not be used on your
shake roof.
The roof should be followed up with
a light pressure wash and maintenance coat of stain every 2-3 years.
